Best You = Favorite You

How to transition out of the January Jumpstart, into a sustainable, favorite version of you!

As we kicked off the new year with our “January Jumpstart” Challenge together, many of us were searching for inspiration and motivation to reconnect with our health and wellness goals. It’s not always easy to carve out time for ourselves amidst the demands of daily life. Our instructors and studio owners, much like yourselves, also struggles with finding the right balance between self-care and the pressures of everyday life (partners, kids, pets, work, friends, families, social lives, and so much more).

However, in a recent nb class, we stumbled upon a powerful piece of wisdom that we think will transition us out of our January Challenge into the rest of 2024. During class, the instructor uttered a phrase that struck a chord within me: ‘Aim toward being your favorite version of yourself.’

Favorite You vs. Best You in a world filled with endless demands and comparisons, it’s all too easy to fall into the trap of striving for perfection. We scroll through social media feeds filled with idealized, usually edited, images of perfection, setting unrealistic standards for our own lives. But what if instead of chasing someone else’s idea of perfection, we focused on becoming our favorite version of ourselves?

Our favorite selves embody authenticity, passion, and contentment. They prioritize self-care and celebrate progress over perfection. Instead of adhering to external standards, they listen to their inner voice and align their goals with their deepest desires.

Traditionally, New Year’s resolutions are approached with the intention of becoming a standard that literally doesn’t exist, for us presently. Like most, with this mindset, we tend to fall short of these lofty ideals, leading to frustration and burnout. This year, let’s shift our mindset and redefine our resolutions.

What if, instead of chasing unattainable goals, we focused on cultivating habits and routines that resonate with our favorite selves? Rather than hustling for external validation, we prioritize sustainability, joy, and presence in our daily lives.

Connecting with Your Favorite Self:

Take a moment to envision your favorite version of yourself. What qualities do they embody? What habits and routines bring them joy and fulfillment? Reflect on how you can align your actions with your innermost desires and values.

Reflections to Reconnect with Your Favorite Version of Yourself:

  1. How would you describe your favorite version of yourself?
  2. What are their priorities in life?
  3. How do they present themselves to the world?
  4. Which daily habits or routines would support your journey towards becoming your favorite self?
  5. In what ways might your favorite version of yourself evolve from day to day?
  6. When did you last feel a strong connection with this version of yourself?
  7. How does your favorite self differ from the image of your ‘best’ self?

As we wrap up our Jumpstart Challenge and head into February, let’s commit to embracing our favorite selves and nurturing a supportive community where authenticity and self-compassion thrive – in your inner circles, social communities like nb, and at home. May this be the year we rediscover our true selves and embrace the journey towards health, happiness, and fulfillment.

Here’s to finishing the first month of empowering workouts, supportive friendships, and sustainable routines that transition to the rest of the year! May this be the year you come fully into yourself, and live out your favorite you.
